Description
Introduction
The Equity Through Cultural Proficiency Initiative, offered by Progression Partners Inc,
aims to promote equity in education by empowering educators to become effective
leaders and teachers who can align policies, practices, values, and procedures to meet
the needs of all students, regardless of their cultural, ethnic, or socioeconomic
background. By doing so, the initiative aims to close the achievement gap for minority
students, enhance student engagement in the classroom, improve attendance and
discipline, and ultimately improve student achievement for all.
The approach taken by the Equity Through Cultural Proficiency Initiative is an inside-out
approach that starts with the personal beliefs and values of school leaders and teachers.
It encourages them to reflect on their own understandings and beliefs about others, while
also validating their current feelings and beliefs. This allows educators to make changes
without feeling threatened or questioning their self-worth.
The Equity Through Cultural Proficiency Initiative aims to promote a cultural shift within
schools by addressing ethnic and social gaps and creating an environment that values
diversity. This approach not only benefits students but also helps teachers to develop as
individuals and improves schools and districts.
The Initiative utilizes a range of strategies, including theory, practice, and collaboration, to
support the development of teachers and school leaders. By incorporating these
strategies, educators can better understand cultural diversity and learn how to effectively
integrate it into the classroom. This approach ultimately helps to improve student
outcomes and create a more equitable educational system for all.
