Implicit Bias

This workshop gives you a good start about the concept of implicit bias and how it imparts to racial disproportionality. Participants will discuss and consider how those biases might occur in the daily routines of school security personnel and discuss implications for change. The goals of the training are for security personnel to gain better understanding of their own biases, explore the effects of institutional racism and structural inequity, develop strategies to reduce implicit bias to enhance equitable decision-making and day to day operational practices.

During the workshop, the participants will be able to:

  • Review the fundamental concepts of implicit bias in the context of security management
  • Identify the connections between institutional racism, structural inequity, and implicit bias.
  • Explore strategies to identify one’s own implicit biases and ways to promote a bias-free environment
