An integral part of our work is to provide ongoing learning opportunities that are specific to the needs of your staff and your goals for improvement. These sessions help your staff become experts in literacy instruction through the lens of culture. This, in turn, creates a pathway to a positive, equitable learning environment and students who are proficient in reading and writing skills.
Literacy Institute
An 5-day comprehensive workshop series that covers all foundational elements of the science of reading. Participants will deepen their understanding of the essential elements of teaching reading as identified by the National Reading Panel and supported by current research (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension). In addition, participants will learn how to analyze reading data and use results to target reading instruction. Educators will participate in hands-on interactive activities that amplify knowledge of literacy strategies as well as understand how these strategies are easily incorporated with the work of cultural proficiency.
6-12 Literacy Progression
For students 6-12, the emphasis shifts from learning to read TO reading to learn. Standards across the nation often includes expectations that students are able to analyze, make claims, reason, and defend their thinking based on information they have read. Our professional development equips teachers to use comprehension strategies that support students in going beyond surface-level knowledge of reading to understand the depth and complexity of literature.
Literacy Walk
A “boots-on-the-ground” support system that provides direct, comprehensive coaching and professional development to classroom teachers to support research based literacy instruction strategies. Consultants work hand in hand with teachers to assist with lesson planning incorporating the components of the Big 5 (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension) delivery of instruction, strategizing to connect all learners, data analysis and data analysis. In addition, the consultant will support teachers in making timely and intentional connections to equity and inclusion throughout the lesson.
K-5 Literacy Progression
Our professional development services for K-5 specialize in supporting educators in learning and implementing the key components of an effective literacy classroom. Educators are taught how to analyze data, how to plan instruction based on data, and how to ensure students are systemically and explicitly learning how to break the code of learning reading and writing.
Job-Embedded School Support

Consultants work hand in hand with teachers to assist with lesson design planning, delivery of instruction, strategizing to connect all learners, and data analysis.
Introductory Literacy Workshop
Participants will receive an overview of the essential elements of sound literacy instruction as identified by the National Reading Panel. This workshop will examine current research that supports the importance of utilizing a systemic and explicit method of teaching reading and writing. In addition, participants will begin to explore how culturally relevant teaching should be a natural part of reading and writing throughout the school day.
Virtual Options
Webinars and Coaching Sessions are offered for small groups (up to 5) to support in problem-solving reading data or delving deeper into concerns of individual students. Consultants will support participants in moving through the problem-solving cycle to determine; the presenting problem, actions that have been attempted, analyzing data, and determining the next steps.
